Heads-up
Rain can close the path for safety. The latest notice lifted a closure on October 18, 2026. Have another plan for a rainy day.
Sudden rain can flood the path. Follow broadcasts and safety staff. If you are stranded or unsure, call the control room and give your location. Emergency ladders are not a known way out for wheelchair users.
Most entrances are stairs only. Choose a ramp or elevator entrance before you go, and plan your way out too.
Getting in
- Entrances
- Most entrances are stairs only, and reaching the path can be slightly difficult. On one operator page, there are 55 entrances: 36 with stairs, 17 with ramps and 2 with elevators. One wheelchair traveler wrote that 9 have a ramp or elevator. The current total is not known.
- Ramps
- You can use ramps at Cheonggye Plaza (청계광장), Seungyo Bridge (세운교), Beodeul Bridge (버들다리), Dasangyo Bridge (다산교), Biundanggyo Bridge (비운당교), Dumul Bridge (두물다리) and Gosanjagyo Bridge (고산자교). On the operator's guide map, the name is Biudanggyo (비우당교), not Biundanggyo. Whether both names mean the same bridge is not known. To ask about this bridge, call the control room at +82-2-2290-7111 (02-2290-7111 inside Korea). The way in for wheelchair users has no step and slopes gently down along the water.
- Elevators
- Two elevators go down to the path, one at Samilgyo Bridge (삼일교) and one at Hwanghakgyo Bridge (황학교). They are separate from subway elevators, and the space inside is somewhat narrow. Whether they are running on the day of your visit is not known.
- Route
- For Cheonggye Plaza, use Gwanghwamun Station (Line 5) Exit 5 or City Hall Station (Lines 1 and 2) Exit 4. Whether these exits have elevators is not known. Ogansugyo Bridge (오간수교) is near Dongdaemun. A ramp is marked between Beodeul Bridge and Ogansugyo Bridge on the operator's map.
- Parking
- There is no accessible parking at the stream, as of November 2024, and Cheonggye Plaza has no separate parking. Plan to arrive another way.
Inside
- Paths
- One wheelchair traveler wrote that the paths run on both sides of the stream, below street level. They are mostly flat with gentle slopes, but some stretches are narrow. One wheelchair traveler wrote that the waterside paths can be used by wheelchair.
- Surface
- Path surfaces include stone, block and concrete. Where each surface is found is not known.
- Easier route
- Follow the route marked for people with reduced mobility (이동약자 노선), which has smaller level changes and wider paths. Map boards along the stream may also show ramp exits. One travel guide says some stretches have stairs or ramps, so plan where you will leave the path.
- Toilets
- Accessible toilets exist around the stream: 21 of 34 public toilets and 13 of 43 private open toilets. Some are inconvenient to use. Examples across the stream include Dongdaemun Shopping Complex (동대문종합상가), the pay toilet by Samilgyo Bridge and the automatic toilet at Hwanghakgyo Bridge.
- Seating
- On the operator's facility records, the stream area has 205 chairs, plus sitting walls at 9 locations. The current numbers are not known. Whether the chairs have backs or armrests is not known.
