You can read this site without an account. We do not ask for your name or email address. We do not use tools that need a cookie consent banner, and we do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Accessible Korea runs this site. The Accessible Korea Privacy Desk handles questions and complaints about your data. Write to hello@accessible-korea.com.

We do not ask for consent. We rely on Article 15(1)(6) of Korea's Personal Information Protection Act: we need the data listed on this page to keep our pages correct, answer you, stop abuse, count readers and run the site, and we keep only what these uses need.

What we keep

When you use Tell us

We keep only these things:

  • What you typed
  • The name of the page, and the place id if it is a place page
  • The time you sent it
  • A scrambled version of your IP address

We turn your IP address into a scrambled code with a secret key and the date, so the code is different each day. We never store the IP address itself. We use the code to limit repeat posts that day and to check recent notes for abuse.

We use your note to fix the page. We cannot reply to it, because we do not ask how to reach you. Please do not write your name, contact details or health details in the form.

We delete scrambled IP addresses after 7 days. We delete notes after one year.

When you use Use my location

On map pages you can press the location button on the map (Use my location). Your browser asks you first, and the maps work if you say no.

Your location stays in your browser. We use it there to sort the list and move the map. We do not send it to our server, keep it, or put it in a cookie or the page address.

The map then asks OpenFreeMap for the images of that area, so OpenFreeMap can see which part of the map you asked for.

When you read the site

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts pages read, where readers come from and which countries they are in. Cloudflare says it uses no cookies or other client-side state, and no fingerprinting. It receives your IP address with the request, discards it at the nearest Cloudflare data center, and does not store it in its core databases or logs.

When you email us

If you write to our email address, we use your address and message to answer you. We keep emails for one year after we answer, then delete them.

Who handles your data

Your browser or our server sends data to these companies over encrypted connections when you use the site. They handle it for the purposes below. Some of them work outside Korea.

Transfers outside Korea. We run this site from South Korea. For Vercel, Cloudflare, Supabase and Zoho, the legal basis is Article 28-8(1)(3) of Korea's Personal Information Protection Act: processing and storage we outsource to provide this site to you. For companies and data centers in the European Economic Area, including OpenFreeMap in Hungary, it is Article 28-8(1)(5): Korea has recognized the EEA as giving equivalent protection. Data moves when you open a page or send a note, over encrypted connections.

Vercel

  • Company: Vercel Inc., United States. Contact: privacy@vercel.com
  • Why: Hosts this site
  • What: Your IP address and request details, when you open a page. When you send a Tell us note, the note and your IP address pass through Vercel on the way to our database. The code that saves the note runs in Seoul
  • Where: Vercel says its main facilities are in the United States. It may also process data in other countries where it or its subprocessors work
  • How long: Under Vercel's own policy, which sets no fixed period

Cloudflare

  • Company: Cloudflare, Inc., United States. Contact: dpo@cloudflare.com
  • Why: Web Analytics counts readers. Turnstile checks that a Tell us note comes from a person, without a puzzle. Cloudflare also uses Turnstile data to improve its bot checks. Turnstile is covered by Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum
  • What: For Web Analytics, page and timing data, and your IP address until it is discarded. For Turnstile, your IP address, TLS fingerprint, browser header (User-Agent) and the site it runs on, when the form loads or you send it
  • Where: Cloudflare says it mainly stores data in the United States and the European Economic Area, and may access it from around the world
  • How long: Under Cloudflare's own policy, which sets no fixed period for this data

Supabase

  • Company: Supabase Pte. Ltd., Singapore. Contact: privacy@supabase.com
  • Why: Stores Tell us notes in a private database
  • What: The note, the page name and place id, the time you sent it and the scrambled IP address
  • Where: Our database is in Seoul, South Korea
  • How long: Scrambled IP addresses for 7 days, notes for one year

Zoho

  • Company: Zoho Corporation, United States. Contact: privacy@zohocorp.com
  • Why: Receives and sends our email at hello@accessible-korea.com
  • What: Your email address and your message, when you write to us
  • Where: Our mailbox is in Zoho's United States data center
  • How long: One year after we answer

OpenFreeMap

  • Company: Hyperknot Software Kft., Hungary. Contact: privacy@openfreemap.org
  • Why: Sends the map images on map pages
  • What: Your browser asks for map images when you open a map. OpenFreeMap says its access logs have no IP addresses by default, but it may turn IP logging on for a short time during a security incident or misuse. Error logs may include an IP address and the requested address
  • Where: The company is in Hungary. It says it may use Cloudflare to deliver the images
  • How long: OpenFreeMap says it deletes server logs after 7 days, or up to 30 days after a security incident

If you do not want your data to go to these companies, do not use the part of the site that needs them. Without Vercel you cannot open the site. Web Analytics runs on every page, but you can block it with a content blocker in your browser and still use the site. Without Turnstile you cannot send a note, but you can still email us. Maps also have a list on the same page, but the map images load when you open the page.

Your choices

You can ask us to show, correct or delete your data, or to stop using it. We do not store who wrote a note, so tell us the page and what you wrote, and we will look for it. A parent, guardian or someone you authorize can ask for you.

How we delete data

We delete notes and scrambled IP addresses from the database when their time is up. Deleted rows cannot be read again. We delete emails from our mailbox when their time is up.

How we protect data

Data moves over encrypted connections. Notes sit in a private database that is not open to the public, and only the site operator can read them.

If you have a complaint

Write to hello@accessible-korea.com first. You can also contact the Personal Information Infringement Report Call Center, run by the Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA) for Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission. Call 118 from a Korean phone or use its website.
