About

How we check.

Accessible Korea is an English guide to Seoul for people who use a wheelchair or can't walk far, and for the people who plan their trips. We start from public data, compare it with other sources online, and show the source and date on each page.

Updated Nov 2, 2026

3 steps

Each page shows its source and date.

  1. Public data

We start with facility data from the Korea Tourism Organization, Seoul Metro and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. We write the facts in plain English and keep the date.

    Public data
  2. Checked online

We compare public data with official sites and traveler sources. When sources disagree in a way that changes your plans, the page says so. Place pages name their sources, such as Seoul Danurim, official sites and traveler sites.

    Checked online
  3. You tell us

Place, station and guide pages have a Tell us form. Your notes show where a page is wrong or out of date.

    Visitor notes

We use AI tools to gather sources, write the text and compare it with those sources, and no person has read every sentence.

The labels

Labels are set by these rules from the sourced facts, then corrected when a source shows the rule got it wrong.

Wheelchair

Wheelchair accessible
Sources show the way in, moving around inside, and an accessible toilet you can use.
Partly accessible
Sources show that only some areas work, or that you may need help. We also use this label when sources show the way in and moving around inside, but do not show a usable accessible toilet.
Not for wheelchairs
Sources say only that a wheelchair cannot get in or cannot move around inside. It may still work if you can walk a short way.
Not enough data yet
Sources do not show enough about the way in and moving around inside to give one of the labels above. We don't guess.

Walking load

We judge the main way around a place, not every corner. The label is for people who can't walk far.

Low
A small, flat place with short distances between the main points. It has an elevator or is on one floor.
Medium
A wide site, several buildings or long indoor distances, or some slopes or rough ground. There are other options, such as elevators or places to rest.
High
Seeing the main sights needs a steep hill, long stairs with no elevator, or more than 1 km on foot with nowhere to rest. A place can also take this label from a High neighborhood. High places stay out of default lists and recommendations, but they keep their pages, with the reasons and other ideas.
Not rated yet
There is not enough information to judge.

"As of" is the month we collected the data, or the date of the file when the data has a fixed date. Most rows in the station elevator and toilet data carry a 2021 date (793 of 867 elevators and 272 of 302 toilets), even though we collected them in October 2026.

KOGL is the Korea Open Government License. Type 1 lets anyone use a work, change it and use it commercially, if they credit the source. Type 3 is the same, but the work cannot be changed.

Station pages show elevator status as it was the day we collected it, not live status.

Seoul Metro's elevator and toilet data covers Lines 1 to 8. For other lines, such as Line 9, exit information comes from the datasets above and from operator websites. Some exit numbers on Korail lines are estimates made from the elevator locations above and OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors. Facts about Daebang Station come partly from Namuwiki, a community wiki, and that station's page names it as a source. That Namyeong Station has no elevator or escalator comes partly from a Kukmin Ilbo Cookie News report from July 2026, and that station's page names it too.

Maps use OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles, with data from OpenStreetMap.

Photos

Most place photos come from the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO). Each photo shows its credit on the page.

  • KTO, KOGL Type 1: Free to use with credit.
  • KTO, KOGL Type 3: We show these whole. We do not crop them or put text on them. We only resize them and save them in a web format.
  • AI image: An AI tool made this picture. We use one only when we can't find a real photo we may use. It shows the general look of a place, so don't use it to judge access. We replace it when a real photo is available.
  • Illustration: The illustrations in our guides are drawings made with an AI tool. Each one is marked Illustration on the page.

These photos come from Wikimedia Commons. We resized them and saved them in a web format, and they stay under the same licenses.
