Bukchon Hanok Village

Not recommended if walking is hard: this lived-in village of hanok houses sits on a hill with many slopes. The way from Jeongdok Public Library toward Samcheong-dong Street is flat by wheelchair. A companion is advised on the slopes at Views 3 to 6.

Heads-up

Visit the Red Zone between 10:00 and 17:00, as of October 2026. Since March 1, 2025, sightseeing there outside those hours can bring a 100,000 won fine if you ignore a warning. This covers foreign visitors too.

Sources differ on whether the village closes on Sundays. Call Bukchon Village Information Center at +82-2-2148-4161 to ask, or visit from Monday to Saturday.

Getting in

Way in
You can enter the village by wheelchair on the main approach, but it can be a little difficult.
Parking
Accessible spaces are at Jeongdok Public Library and the Changdeokgung parking lot. Jeongdok's 2 spaces, about 230 m from its entrance, have room to get out by wheelchair. There is no separate walkway after you get out, so watch for cars.

Inside

Paths
The way from the Jeongdok Public Library entrance toward Samcheong-dong Street is flat and easy by wheelchair. By wheelchair, skip View 8, one of Bukchon's numbered scenic spots, because it is a stone stairway down to Samcheong-ro.
Slopes
Go with a companion on the slopes at Views 3 to 6 and between the Jeongdok Public Library entrance and the Jaedong Elementary School crossing. Several sloped stretches run about 100 m or more. One wheelchair traveler wrote in 2025 that a power wheelchair climbed the hills easily, but a manual wheelchair would need help.
Surfaces
Sidewalks and alleys are mostly even stone or asphalt, so the surface itself causes little trouble. Watch the stone path outside the Tanello shop, which drops into a steep dip about 50 cm deep.
Toilets
The accessible toilet by Seoul Education Museum has a ramp, grab bars and an automatic door. An elevator reaches it from the Jeongdok parking lot. Gahoe-dong Community Service Center and Bukchon Binkwan also have accessible toilets. Some accessible toilets here can be partly difficult to use.
Wheelchair loan
In 2022 (older information), you could borrow a wheelchair at Samcheong-ro Information Center, which had 1. You left ID and a 100,000 won deposit, returned with the wheelchair.

Fees
The village is free to visit, as of October 2026, and has no ticket office.
Info centers
Wheelchairs can enter and turn at both information centers. You can call Bukchon Village Information Center at +82-2-2148-4161.
Other support
You can reserve a braille map, and assistance dogs may come with you. The number of guides for visitors with visual or hearing disabilities varies by day.
